I hope everyone had a great weekend. I’ve been organizing and actually did some weeding of the shelves so what do I do afterwards? Go buy a book as a treat! I did have a coupon from Barnes & Noble that I couldn’t pass up so I had to buy The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson. It’s fantastic so far and exactly what I needed.
I think I’ve mentioned in the past that when things are a bit crazy for me, I tend to rely on mystery books a lot. Actually that’s not the only crime book I’m reading, I’ve also started The Terra-Cotta Dog by Andrea Camilleri, and so far that’s also a good read.
So this is going to be a short & sweet post as I’m very behind on blog reading but tell me, what good mysteries are you reading lately? I have a feeling that the rest of the year I’ll be needing a lot of those. heh.
I haven’t read any mysteries lately, but I plan to listen to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo on audio very soon. Have a great week!
I love mysteries! I haven’t read Larsson, though. I am a Michael Connelly fan — almost done with every book he’s ever written (I made a chronological list, including books from separate series because they intersect…). Also, Chelsea Cain’s “Heart” series (Evil at Heart is the most recent). Lisa Lutz’ “Spellman” series. For oldies, but goodies, I like Patricia Cornwell & Sara Paretsky. I could go on forever, but I won’t 🙂 Happy reading!
I’ve heard a lot of good things about Larsson’s books but just haven’t got around to reading them yet! I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying it.
I’m currently reading The Girl on Legare Street, which I think is a good mystery IMO though there are also supernatural bits in it.
I believe that The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo will end up on my top 10 list for the year, and I’m on the waiting list for the next one at the library. I’m way down on the list, but I’m pretty sure it will be worth the wait!
I bet The Girl Who Played with Fire is awesome, the free excerpt I read was tremendously gripping.
Not reading any mysteries, but reading New York by Rutherford. I am a bit disappointed. Not much on how the different neighborhoods are developed, like in London. More on the family narratives. However, the writing is good.
I have been on a big Kathy Reichs kick at the moment. I love all the forensic science talk and I enjoy the way she builds up the suspense. I have The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Larsson sitting on the bookshelf so perhaps I should give that a read and maybe pick up a copy of The Girl Who Played with Fire.
Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving! My husband loved both of Larsson’s books. I can’t recommend any mysteries. I started reading one over the weekend and we didn’t get along.
I liked The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo well enough to want to read TGWPwF, but I can wait for it to come out in paperback (or borrow it from the library).
Last night I finished The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley. I loved it!! I can’t wait for the next book in this series and plan to buy this book for my mom for Christmas. It was delightfully charming! Have you read it?
I love mysteries but haven’t managed to read too many this year. And, I haven’t read any of the novels by Stieg Larsson! I supposed those will have to wait for me in 2010. Glad to see you are taking time away from the crazy, busy, stressful times to relax and read!
That’s so funny. I didn’t buy anything, but I dragged 36 books, a DVD and some VHS tapes to the library to donate and then I turned around and checked out a book. We are addicts, but it’s such a great addiction, isn’t it?
I haven’t actually been doing a lot of reading lately 🙁 Stupid crazy life getting in the way of books. BUT I plan to read The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey soon, which everyone tells me is a good mystery 😛
I’ve heard and read such good things about Larsson, I really need to give him a try.
I’m hoping to read both Larsson books over my december break.
I found The Girl Who Played with Fire far, far better and more suspenseful and tight than The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which I really liked.
I love mysteries and feel similarly that I read them more when life is hectic. Read Larsson’s book, and it scared the crap out of me, a devoted mystery reader. It was quite wonderful though.
I also love Ian Rankin’s Rebus series and wish he would come out with another one. If you haven’t read Tana French’s novels Into the Woods and The Likeness, I highly recommend them. They are really a perfect blend of novel and mystery.
