That’s right everyone, it’s April and it’s time to celebrate National Poetry Month. The Academy of American Poets has a list of 30 things you can do be a part of the festivities, now in it’s tenth year.
Some of my favorite ideas are:
- Memorize a poem. This is something I’ve never done but maybe this month I will.
- Write your own poem. If you need some help try Magnetic poetry.
- Sign up for a Poem a Day. Just open your email each morning and you’ll have a poem waiting for you.
- Go to a poetry reading.
So tell me, will you celebrate poetry month? Who are your favorite poets?
For now, I’ll leave with you with these poetry fragments.
I travel along the edge of your thoughts,
and my shadow falls from your white forehead,
my shadow shatters, and I gather the pieces
and go with no body, groping my way.
