Crafty Goodness

I haven’t posted much about my crafty adventures and that’s because my studio hasn’t seen much activity in a while but this weekend I had a bit of fun with some projects. Well, first I do have to give a lot of credit to my husband who patiently waited for me at two different scrapbooking stores this weekend. We were running errands and I just had to take a peek at two stores.

Anyway, I worked on some journal tags by using some Distress Stain, Distress Ink Pads and Glimmer Mist and of course stamps. Here are my tags:

There was one mishap in the studio when I was having so much fun with the spray ink and accidentally caught an unfinished journal. Oh well, it’s all part of the process of having fun and creating. Anyway, I’m thinking of adding tags like these to my shops but not sure yet. What do you think?

In the meantime, I have six tags to giveaway so if anyone wants one let me know and I’ll send you one! You can use them for journaling or as bookmarks too.

Next post I promise to return to regular book chat. I’ve got to tell you about the books I want, books I’ve read and books I’ve received!

Among the Stacks

Who doesn’t have stacks of books and magazines all over the place? I just saw this great item over at Swissmiss and thought now I could use that:

A magazine stool, isn’t that a great idea?

I’m planning to spend some time among the stacks this weekend, both mine and the bookstore’s. I feel like lately I’ve been on a roll with some great books and I love that.

faithfulplace.jpgCurrently I’m reading Faithful Place by Tana French which I admit I wanted to read it because it’s written by Tana French but I wasn’t thrilled that it was going to be focusing on one of the characters from her second novel, The Likeness. I never warmed up to Frank in that book and although he still hasn’t won me over in this one I don’t want to put this book down.

This book focuses on Detective Frank Mackey’s return home after 20 years. He never expected to go back to his family and home but when the remains of a woman are thought to be those of an old girlfriend of Frank’s he can’t help but be drawn into the mystery. I’m quite into the book and just now one big thing has happened which I didn’t expect but of course I can’t help but wonder what else the author has in store for me. There are still many pages to go.

So have a wonderful weekend everyone. I’m off to continue reading my book and I’ll trying to keep cool. Oh I can’t wait for the cool days that await us in Germany soon.

Library Books

I’ve read quite a few really good library books recently so today I thought why not go back and get some more. I really should be spending more time with my own books but it’s always so fun to come home with a stack of new books from the library isn’t it?

I didn’t check out too many but I think I found some good ones. Let me know what you think:

  • Big Girl Small by Rachel DeWoskin. I think I read about this one in either Bust or Bitch magazine and I thought it sound like a good quirky book. The story is about a sixteen year old who is vulnerable, sarcastic and well, a teenager but she’s got plans for a big, bright future. What makes her just a bit more unique is that she’s only three feet nine inches tall.
  • The Revenge of the Radioactive Lady by Elizabeth Stuckey-French. Another quirky book I heard about via one of the magazines I mentioned above. This story is about a woman who is intent on killing Dr. Spriggs who once gave her a radioactive cocktail without her consent as part of a secret government study. This so does not sound like my usual read but there’s something about this which kind of amuses me.
  • Twice Born by Margaret Mazzantini. Filled with memories of the four-year siege of Sarajevo, Gemma reluctantly boards a flight from her native Rome to that war-scarred city with her sixteen-year-old son, Pietro. She hopes to teach her son about the city of his birth and about Diego, the father he never knew.

A shortish post because I’ve got a very good book I’m reading currently and I can’t wait to get back to it right now. More on that one tomorrow.
