Link-O-Rama

Hey friends I’ve been reading quite a few interesting things online and wanted to share. All bookish goodness that I think you might enjoy.

  • 10 Quotes on Anne Frank’s birthday. Anne Frank was born on June 12, 1929. Here is one: “For someone like me, it is a very strange habit to write in a diary. Not only that I have never written before, but it strikes me that later neither I, nor anyone else, will care for the outpouring of a thirteen year old schoolgirl.”
  • 25 Reasons to read. All of us book bloggers could probably come up with 25 more easily enough but I thought these were great. I especially like #25. Ha.
  • 10 of the Greatest Debut Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels. I’ve not read a single one of these how about you?
  • The Crime Writers of Canada have announced the 2013 Arthur Ellis Awards. Haven’t read any of these either.

A quick post tonight because I’m quite behind on my reading for my book group next week.

Count Me In

Jap-Lit-7.jpgSo I went back and forth on whether to join the Japanese Literature Challenge, which Bellezza is hosting, and in the end I couldn’t resist. I mean, you can read however many books you want but least one and that’s during a nine month period. Surely I can do this.

Oh and the other great part is that for this challenge you can read works from children’s books, short stories, mystery, biography, sci-fi/fantasy, manga and poetry.

I looked through my stacks for books that I could consider and I found these titles:

I’ve read all of these authors except for Yukio Mishima. All of these books sound very interesting and that’s why I have them in my stacks but you know who I wish wasn’t missing from my stacks? Banana Yoshimoto. I could have sworn I had another book of hers waiting to be read.

Anyway, I’m excited to join in the challenge, which is now in its seventh year – wow! How about you, are you joining?

Returns & Checkouts

I hope you’ve all had a great weekend. I did a bit of shopping with my mom, caught up on some emails, did some grocery shopping and I also did spend some time with books.

On Saturday I went to the library to return a couple of books that were due. I was so bummed out I had to return Life After Life by Jill McCorkle because I had just started that book and it was so good. I began reading it at work (which I do not recommend because it made me cry) and didn’t realize it was due back so soon. I would have renewed it but there was another hold on the book. I’ll be come back to this one definitely.

Anyway, I had a couple of holds waiting for me and so here’s what I got:

threebooks

  • The Best American Poetry 2012. Not a hold but when I saw this on the new books shelf I couldn’t resist. I haven’t read as much poetry this year as I would like and I need to remedy that. I’ve skimmed a bit of this already and read a wonderful poem The Afterlife by Lynne Sharon Schwartz.
  • Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. I’ve read such great reviews recently that I just had to get this book ASAP. I’ve read Rowell’s other book Attachments a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it so I’m excited to read this one.
  • No Mark Upon Her by Deborah Crombie. Because it’s been a while since I caught up with the adventures of Duncan & Gemma.

Now I really need to get back to the latest Maisie Dobbs book. It’s due back tomorrow at the library but I am this close to finishing it. Maybe tonight! And, next up no matter what book I’d like to start I really have to get going with my mystery book for book group.
