Thinking Of…

My thoughts this past week has been of my mother-in-law who unfortunately passed away last Sunday. Right now my husband is in Germany making arrangements and unfortunately I wasn’t able to go. It’s so hard when our loved ones are so far away.

I will forever remember her kindness and how we used to try to communicate even with my limited German. I think of the wonderful breakfasts we shared with her and how much fun we had when we went on little outings to museums, for cake and coffee and to nearby towns.

I’m so sad I didn’t get to visit her again this year. Not only have I been thinking of her but also of my dad and my grandma. They are always in my thoughts but even more so now.

So, I hadn’t meant to disappear from blogland but now you know why. Anyway, hug your loved ones and be kind to yourself this weekend. I’m slowly surfacing so I hope to get back here soon.

Weekend Recap

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. We had a really nice weekend but unfortunately one of the main items on my to-do list didn’t get done. That was “clean craft space.” I used one of my craft tables as my study space while I prepared for my HR exam so I finally put away my books, notes, etc. but a lot of my craft items (projects in progress included) are lumped all to one side. It’s not pretty. So, that is something i need to do before I start crafting again otherwise I’ll probably just spend time moving things around and not really creating anything.

Anyway, we made it out to Barnes & Noble for an afternoon and I discovered Crafts Beautiful magazine. I always see several sealed magazines and don’t pay too much attention to them until I realized that these craft magazines are sealed because they have crafty freebies! Where have I been? Needless to say, I had to get one to check it out.

I was happy with my purchase mainly because I got to see some of the craft lines that are available in the U.K. From what I’ve heard in the crafty community in the States you can find a lot more and especially with regards to stuff on sale but it is still fun to see what is available in other places. I know when we go to Germany I always enjoy visiting idee which is a big craft store in Hannover.

So there are a lot of other things I need to catch up on the blog as well (I have about five mini reviews coming soon) but for now I need to close here and go finish my book for my mystery book group meeting.

Hope you are having a great start to the week!

Book Bounty

It had been a while since I treated myself to a little splurge at the Book Depository and I found some really great deals that I couldn’t pass up. It’s always so fun to get books in the mail isn’t it? Here are the books I bought.

Belgravia by Julian Fellows, Unfaithfully Yours by Nigel Williams, The Glittering Art of Falling Apart by Ilana Fox and An Unrestored Woman by Shobha Rao.

The only book I’ve really heard much about is Belgravia but I liked the descriptions of the other books. I especially liked that these aren’t books that I would normally find at my local B&N shop.

I also have a little book bundle I picked up from my mystery book group. When I met up with them a couple of weeks ago it was also our book exchange night. We do those twice a year. Pretty much you bring books you want to pass along. It doesn’t have to be just mysteries and it’s fun to see what other books members are reading aside from mysteries.

This is the little stack I picked up. Granted my stack looks huge thanks to the Joyce Carol Oates book on the bottom. I can’t even remember what the premise of the book is but I just know I’ve enjoyed some of her other books before.

Two books here are by the same author, Janwillem van de Wetering. I feel like I’ve seen him mentioned before on mystery lists of writers not to miss, etc. I’ve not read any of his books so it was great to pick up two from his Amsterdam police series. I have Death of a Hawker and The Maine Massacre.

The other book I picked up was Death on Tour by Janice Hamrick. A cozy whodunit set in Egypt.

Oh and I actually haven’t told you about another neat place I found for book deals. I’ll save that one for my next post because of course I bought some books there that I need to share! Let me know if you’ve read any of these books.
