New Releases for October

Happy October! Given that it’s that time of the year for reading spooky books I thought I’d focus on some new releases perfect for reading with the lights on. Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARCs!

Let Him In by William Friend. A creeping, gothic psychological suspense about a young, newly widowed father struggling to raise twin daughters obsessed with an imaginary friend. On sale 10/3/2023.

The Night House by Jo Nesbø; translated from the Norwegian by Neil Smith. In the wake of his parents’ tragic deaths in a house fire, fourteen-year-old Richard Elauved has been sent to live with his aunt and uncle in the remote, insular town of Ballantyne. There he is treated like an outcast and when a child goes missing, Richard is blamed. On sale 10/3/2023.

Leave the Lights On by Liv Andersson. Cape Morgan, Maine, is the utopian ideal for a charmed life, and Beatrice Wicker knows it. She may not have an ideal marriage but as long as she can keep her secrets she is fine. On sale 10/17/2023.

Murder by Degrees by Rita Mukerji. A historical mystery set in 19th century Philadelphia, following a pioneering woman doctor as she investigates the disappearance of a young patient who is presumed dead. On sale 10/17/2023.

Hazardous Spirits by Anbara Salam. In 1920s Edinburgh, Scotland, Evelyn Hazard is a young, middle-class housewife living the life she’s always expected—until her husband, Robert, upends everything with a startling announcement: he can communicate with the dead. On sale 10/16/2023.

Nestlings by Nat Cassidy. Ana and Reid needed a lucky break after Ana’s traumatic childbirth. The couple wins an apartment in one of Manhattan’s most revered buildings with beautiful vistas of Central Park and stunning architecture. Strange events start to happen which Reid dismisses but he can’t explain the needle-like bite marks on the baby. On sale 10/31/2023.

I think I’m already feeling spooked just by seeing these covers let alone reading the descriptions! If you are in the mood for a historical mystery, a domestic thriller,  a gothic novel or one featuring monsters I think you will find the right one among these. Let me know if any of these spark your interest.
