Well, this post was going to be all about my book group meeting earlier this week but I ended up with a cold and had to miss work a couple of days and book group. Ugh. I’m feeling much better and hopefully this weekend I’ll actually go out and enjoy it. Anyway, I did finish the book club read, The Long Call by Ann Cleeves which was a good mystery. I’ll tell you more about that in book summary post. And, I’m ready for next month’s meeting as I received my book order for Out of Bounds by Val McDermid.
In the meantime, as I’ve finished The Long Call, I decided my next mystery was going to be Suffer the Children by Lisa Black. I’ve really enjoyed this series and this is the fourth book in the Maggie & Renner series. I expecting a lot of drama as Maggie’s ex-husband, who is also a detective, might be finding out the truth about Renner.
Now turning to mysteries/crime dramas on tv we finished Occupied which is set in Norway. We’ve really enjoyed this series and of course have added Norway to one of the places we want to visit one day. We also started watching Bitter Daisies which is set in Spain. I’m so intrigued after one episode and want to know more.
One last item on mysteries, did you see that the nominees for the Edgars are out? As usual, I haven’t read any of these yet.

I’m sorry you were under the weather, but glad it didn’t linger too long. The Long Call sounds like a good mystery, so it’s on my list. I’m getting back to my mystery stack and am loving Two Girls Down (Louisa Luna). I read the first 150 pages the first night (stayed up until 1 am!). I love the two main characters!
So sorry you’ve had a cold, Iliana. It’s certainly the season for all kinds of respiratory things here isn’t it? If it isn’t flu or cedar allergies, it’s a cold. Glad you’re better. Also glad that The Long Call worked well for you. I have it, but haven’t started reading it yet. I’m thinking we might add it to our mystery group rotation later this year. Need to check and see how many copies the library has. Yes, I saw the Edgar Award announcements. I’ve not read many of the books – I did read Miracle Creek, nominated for a ‘best first’. And I was happy to see my recent Catriona Macpherson read was nominated for the Mary Higgins Clark award. I will say that I am much more likely to read or have read the books nominated for that award. I think I own maybe 4 out of 5 of those. I’ll be curious what your group thinks of the Val McDermid book.
Glad you are feeling, better, Iliana! I liked The Long Call, but then, I’ve liked all of Cleeves’ books. The same for McDermid, but I think I must have missed Out of Bounds, which means another excuse to add another title to the list. I’ve only read a couple of the books on the Edgar Award list, but hope to read more eventually. Like Kay, I was happy to see Catriona Macpherson’s nomination.
There certainly has been something going around for the past few weeks. We took couple of weeks to get over it but we finally did. Phew! Glad you are feeling better but sorry that you had to miss book club. 🙁

There are a lot of people where I live that are sick with a cold, sore throat, etc. I’m glad you’re feeling better. I’m not familiar with any of those books so I’ll be checking them out.
Oh no, so sorry you weren’t feeling well but, on the plus side, it sounds like you got some excellent reading done. You are on a roll with some nice sounding mysteries.
