No, not two pages read, two art journal pages completed last week! My reading has been slow going so this title might not be far off of that either now that I think about it. Anyway, remember I recently showed you a two page spread that I started?
Here it is finished:
You can still see some of the washi tape peeking through underneath the paint. There is quite a bit of texture to this and I wish you could see all the bumps and ridges.
One of my favorite things about this is the image of the woman (sorry if it’s hard to see the details). I found the illustration in an old book and I did a tape transfer not sure if it would work but it totally did! I’ve done tape transfers with magazine pictures but not old paper. What is cool is that you can see through a bit of the image to the paint underneath. Love that.
I also used some shiny spray and a star stencil. You can really see the stars at a certain angle and then I ended up just spraying a bit more on the pages. Again, hard to see here but if you hold up the book you can totally see the shimmer. I wasn’t too happy with the lettering which I did with a stencil but that is something I am planning to work on.
In case you are wondering what the text says, it is a quote by Maya Angelou: “Precious jewel, you glow, you shine, reflecting all the good things in the world.” I like that don’t you?
So as I want to work on my lettering technique I glanced through, Creative Lettering edited by Jenny Doh, and am very tempted to get it. If you have a good book to recommend on fun lettering techniques let me know. Alright off, to start the next pages!
I love the idea of an art journal and have often toyed with the idea of trying something like that for myself, but I am afraid I would not keep it up. Your pages turned out lovely, though! I am reading at a snail’s pace, too. I try not to get discouraged by how little I am accomplishing on that front, but I know how many books I have waiting to be read that I really can’t wait to pick up and it is really hard. On a happier note, I am back to stitching again, though, so that makes me happy!
I’ve tried keeping an art journal in the past, but have nothing going now. I just thought that it might be interesting to one or two page spreads about the books you read. It would be fun to find quotes from the book or that simply applied and images that evoke something about the book!
Wow! That turned out so good!
Beautiful! And I like the Maya Angelou quote.
That turned out beautifully! I wish I was a bit more artistic and could do things like that 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
That’s beautiful, Iliana!
And I like that quote by Maya Angelou.
Hope you’ve a wonderful week ahead!
