Tuesday Intro

I am about to start a new book so I thought it was perfect time to share and join in First Chapter, First Paragraph Tuesday Intros. Thank you to Yvonne, from Socrates’ Book Reviews who hosts this meme. As a reminder this is your chance to post a bit from a book that you are reading or planning to read.

“He closed his eyes and breathed deeply, bathing in the smells. Some fresh, some corpulent. All lovely. This was what it must smell like to be God, he thought, smiling down at his collection. This was what it must smell like to be in heaven. Surrounded by the dead.

A smile spread across his lips like fire in a burning building. He really should take his medication, but not now.Not yet. Not when there were so many dead things to enjoy.”

Cold Granite by Stuart MacBride

Christmas is coming, cold, dark and wet, bringing death with it. DS Logan McRae is having a bad week: his first day back on the job in Aberdeen after a year out on the sick, and four-year-old David Reid’s body is discovered in a ditch. Stripped, strangled, mutilated and a long time dead.

But David Reid is only the first; there’s a killer stalking the cold granite streets, abducting children, leaving their torn bodies behind.

Have you read this series? I have not but I’m excited to check it out. The Logan McRae series is set in Aberdeen, the Granite City, Oil Capital of Europe, perched on the east coast of Scotland. I have heard of this series before but hadn’t checked it out but thanks to my mystery book group which decided this was our April read, I’m finally getting to check it out.

There are thirteen books in the series so if I enjoy this first book then I will have quite a few more to look forward to. Let me know if you’ve read this one before and/or if you would continue reading based on this intro.

Oh and speaking of mysteries, did you know the nominees for The Edgars have been announced? Have you read any of the nominees? I have read Murder in Old Bombay by Nev March which is nominated for Best First Novel. Can’t wait to see who the winners will be.
