I have a few books going on right now but this evening I felt like reading poetry. So I went over to my poetry section and pulled out The Poem I Turn To. I’ve read through this collection several times and each time one or two poems spark my interest more than the others. I guess just like the books I choose, it’s all about what kind of mood I’m in. Do I want something more thoughtful, more classic, more fun?
This is the poem I especially liked tonight. It’s so short but I like thinking about what it could mean. Is it sleep calling, dreams that await, your subconscious, the future, a ghost?
All Night I Could Not Sleep by Li Yi
All night I could not sleep
because of the moonlight on my bed.
I kept on hearing a voice calling:
Out of Nowhere, Nothing answered “yes.”
Anyway, now it’s time for me to go to bed and hopefully the moonlight won’t keep me awake. Sweet dreams.

Love it! Moonlight shining into my bedroom makes it hard for me to sleep too, not because the light keeps me awake but because there is something so enchanting about moonlight in particular. Thanks for sharing this!

Kathleen – I tend to go for more “simple” poems. I think they can still carry a lot of different meanings in them and it’s not necessary for a poem to be complicated to be wonderful don’t you think?
Interesting poem…not sure what the poet is trying to get across…was this poem translated? I think I’m missing something.
Serena – It is a translation. The poem was written by Li Yi, a Chinese poet born in 1084. Unfortunately, the book doesn’t really give any more information on the poem aside from the tidbit on the poet so I may be missing the point but I’ll go with it having different meanings and it being up to the reader.
