I was trying to place a library hold a few days ago and found out my library card was expired – the horror! I had been on a bit of a library ban so I could read more from my stacks but I didn’t realize just how long it had been so today I decided that I needed to renew my library card and visit the stacks.
I only checked out three books but I think I found some good ones. Let me know if you’ve read any of these:
- The Cradle In The Grave by Sophie Hannah. I know a lot of readers enjoy Hannah’s books and although I was a bit disappointed with one I read years ago I keep thinking this is an author I need to try again. From the tagline of the book: Two mothers say crib death. One doctor says murder.
- The Very Thought Of You by Rosie Alison. I wanted a book set in England and this historical novel looks promising. It was also shortlisted for the 2010 Orange Prize for Fiction.
- Miss New India by Bharati Mukherjee. Haven’t read any books by this author and she’s been one on my list for a while. This is about a young woman setting off to Bangalore, India to take charge of her own destiny.
I’m looking forward to starting one of these books this weekend. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

The only one I’ve read is The Very Thought of You and I was disappointed with it… I loved the idea of the story but that was it. Hope you like it more than I did!
I’d really like to read Sophie Hannah as I have heard her books are very suspenseful–right up my alley, but I have yet to pick up any of her books. Maybe over the holidays–am already thinking of how I am going to fill those few days off from work! 🙂
I also wasn’t at all a fan of The Very Thought of You, but lots of people loved it and maybe you would too. And like Danielle, I’m very curious about Sophie Hannah!
Your library card expires? I could still be using one from years ago if I hadn’t lost it…
joanna – Oh that’s too bad. I’ll let you know if I like it but I’ll keep my expectations in check!
Danielle – Now that’s a good idea, planning for the holidays! I won’t really have many days off but if I could just get one full day of reading that would be bliss 🙂
Nymeth – So far the Sophie Hannah book isn’t too bad but it’s not really as great as I expected it would be. I’m about half way through.
Kailana – It does! Well, it’s more that the library just wants to check if we the library card holder is still at the same address, phone, etc. And, pay up any fines.
You certainly can’t let your library card be expired! I hope you have a chance to read The Very Thought of You. That book is sitting on my shelf and hoping I have a chance to read it before the year is up!
I’ve not read any of these but hope you enjoy them all. I love the library and never tire of loading up on books from there!
