Didn’t mean to stop in at Borders again as it’s just a sad place with so many shelves bare and books all of out of order but I got an email with my Borders Bucks balance and I need to take advantage of that while the stores are still open here.
I was surprised that they still had quite a few books that appealed to me although I think the mystery section was pretty much gone. If I read a lot of the Austen spin-offs I would have been in paradise as they had a lot of those books. Anyway, here’s what I came away with:
- Unfinished Desires by Gail Godwin. I’ve read one of her books and really loved it and she’s one of those authors whose books I love to collect. The storylines always seem to touch on subjects I want to read about.
- Delirium by Lauren Oliver. I know a lot of you have raved about this YA book so I was excited to find a copy.
- Death and the Running Patterer by Robin Adair. I don’t recall reading about this book before but it’s a historical mystery set in Australia so that’s a bit different from my typical mystery reads and so I couldn’t leave it behind.
- The Distant Hours by Kate Morton. I loved her book The House at Riverton so this was an easy book choice.
Today was a great day. Went for a bike ride, took a nap and have been reading a lot. I finished Close To Home by Peter Robison which I thought was quite a great read. Unfortunately I didn’t get to read the Slaves of Golconda book. I’m sorry guys, I won’t be joining in the discussion this time around but still look forward to hearing what everyone thought of the book.
Oh yes and I went to the library too. I broke my library ban so I’ll tell you about my library loot tomorrow. Now I’m off to do a bit more reading. Have a wonderful week ahead.
Well you had a good reason…they will only be open for another day 🙂
Borders makes me sad but I can’t resist a good book bargain so I visited the one in San Francisco over the weekend while I was visiting there. Sounds like you had a good weekend. I look forward to hearing about your library loot!
It’s very sad about Borders–this is the second post I’ve read today about last purchases made there. I really liked The Transit of Venus, but it was a challenging read for me. I’m glad I read it in a group as I think that might make it all more clear.
(Diane) BibliophileBytheSea – You know, I think they are going to be open until the rest of the week here. I’m sort of tempted to go back 🙂
Kathleen – Makes me very sad too. That was usually the place we went to on Friday nights to relax and hang out. It always seemed a bit cozier than our B&N store but I guess now we’ll just have to get used to it.
Danielle – I really wanted to read Transit of Venus but got so wrapped up in my other book that I just knew I’d be rushing through it and probably not enjoying it. I’ve had some crazy weeks at work lately so I needed to relax with books.
I was at Borders on Sunday too! The place was bare, but for 60% off my husband and I still managed to find a few treasures. Sorry you won’t be joining the Slaves discussion!
It seems like there’s one Borders closing near every book blogger. *sigh* For me there are actually two. One of them is completely out of fiction titles, while the other, inside a shopping mall, still offers a good selection for 70% off. I actually consider buying some of the bookshelves and fixtures. They are going for $35 a piece.
Looks like you snagged some good books. You know I would have been loving the Austen spin offs! 🙂
