How is it that we are getting ready for Christmas? The year is quickly drawing to a close and I still have so many books I want to read this year and challenges I want to finish but that’s always the way it goes, right?
I can’t complain though because this month has been fabulous for reading. I finished eight books and was able to read one for each of the reading events I joined in November.
Here’s what I read: The Devil’s Highway (Nonfiction November), Henrietta’s War (Novellas in November), The Testaments (#MARM), Go, Went, Gone (German Literature Month), Gone for Good, World of Wonders, In Five Years and A Little Hope.
A big thank you to all the hosts of the reading events in November. As usual, one of the reasons I join is to get some reading suggestions and you all had some amazing suggestions. My reading list is never-ending.
Not only did I read quite a bit more than usual, I did enjoy all of the books but my favorite was hands down, The Devil’s Highway. It was gut-wrenching. If your interested at all in the Mexico/U.S. Border issues, I think this is a must read. It’s not an easy read but I think the author does a good job of showing us just how complex the immigration issue is.
Looking ahead to December we are bombarded by best books of the year lists, gift guides and reading challenges for the new year and while I’m excited about all of that, I don’t want to rush the holiday season. I want to enjoy comfort reads and start thinking about reading plans for next year. Not to mention that it would be great if I could catch up on some reviews.
So hope you have a great reading month ahead and let me know if you’ve already started thinking about next year’s reading plans. So far I would say, join less reading challenges! Then again, you know how I am and watch I’m going to go nuts. Ha.
My plan for next year is to just get my reading numbers back up, which will be possible as long as I don’t lose my ‘reading mojo’ again like I did this year. I want to just bury myself in reading and not worry about other things so much. Hope I’m successful. I also hope you enjoy December and have some very satisfying comfort reads. January will take care of itself, right? LOL
I want to read several lighter seasonal mysteries or what I like call fluff reads. It helps me get in the holiday mood. I tend not to make specific plans for the new year as I never seem to follow the plan. Hope December is a great month for you.
I’m an impromptu reader, I’m more given to impulse than planning, but sometimes when I find a topic or theme that intrigues me, I’ll search for more about it in both fiction and nonfiction.
I always feel rushed in December, to read all that I’ve planned to read, but this year I’m ignoring that internal nagging. I’m pretty sure I’ll reach more Goodreads’ goal and I’ve made great progress on my TBR shelves (although I did go to the library yesterday and came home with a couple of books that I’ve been meaning to read). Now it’s time to post my November Monthly Summary, as well as my Nonfiction November Wrap-Up. And, for the first time in many, many months I’m behind with my reviews. I have three to compose and really should do that before I finish any more books! Oh, and get some Christmas gifts in the mail! Priorities, right? 😉
The Devil’s Highway is one that I intend to read sometime next year. After reading American Dirt, I was inspired to find more books on the topic of immigration and The Devil’s Highway is one that kept popping up. Glad to hear it’s a good, albeit difficult, read.
My plan for next year is to read more scripts. I’m getting away from the novel reading a little bit, But no doubt will read some rom coms as when I’m stressed it’s quite soothing. Thanks for visiting my blog last week @theglobaldig.blogspot.com
You had a lot of reading variety in November… that usually makes for a good month. Hard to believe it’s December. That’s the time of year I always toy with some grand plan for the following year, but this year I started making a reading plan at the beginning of each month . That worked much better for me, so I’ll probably stick with it in 2022.
