As opposed to last month, October seems to have flown by for me. I think it’s mainly due to all the projects I have going on at work which is why my blogging has been a bit hit or miss this month. However, my reading was better this month.
I finished four books: The Turn of the Screw by Henry James, Anxious People by Fredrik Backman, Flowers Over the Inferno by Ilaria Tutti and The Boy in the Field by Margot Livesey. These were all oh so good. I’ve once again fallen behind on my reviews but I will write more about them one of these days but do recommend them.
Now, with that said, my least favorite was Anxious People. I hate to admit that because I know Backman’s books are so well-received around the book blog community and I think this is a case of having very high expectations and the book was good but it didn’t wow me. This is my first book by this author so I don’t have anything else to compare it to but I would love to read another and see how we get on.
I wanted to read more spooky books for the R.I.P. XV reading challenge but I only finished two and that’s ok. Both were excellent so I am happy I read them. We are probably going to watch a scary movie tomorrow night so looking forward to that. And, am I the only one who hadn’t listened to Lore? I finally started listening to it and have enjoyed it so I will probably tune in for some scary stories tonight while I craft.
Now on to November and there are are a couple of reading events I want to participate in and the Texas Book Festival kicks off tomorrow. Yay. I already have registered for several readings next weekend. So more on all of that soon. In the meantime, have a Happy Halloween! We have some treats ready for our movie watching on Saturday.

October seemed to fly for me, too. We’ve been camping for a little over week, so that may be why. I only managed to finish 2 books, though. My current audiobook is slowing me down and I doubt I’ll finish it before the end of the year. It’s a chunkster! I did fairly well with the RIP XV challenge and will have a recap posted in a few days. I’m glad you had a good month of reading. but am sorry to read that you weren’t impressed with the new Backman book. You might like My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She’s Sorry. I thought it was very good on audio.
Fingers crossed that we get good news next Tuesday (or shortly thereafter). I’m encouraged by the early voting number in Texas!!

** spoiler alert ** It s been a long time since I ve given a one star review, but I was already irritated with the holier than thou virgin heroine when THE BIG CONFLICT happened and I was just over it. I finished out of sheer will. So the couple have been together for like maybe 6 months when a girl shows up with a 2 year old and Maisey loses her shit. She literally was like I just finally got to the place where I see our future and us getting married and having babies but now that you have a baby with someone else BEFORE I EVEN MET YOU I can t have that and I m out. I can t think of you with other babies. What the fuck ever. That actually brought it down to two stars, what brought it down even further was that the baby wasn t his, it was his dad s. Sorry, but I don t need that kind of neat and tidy bullshit. I get that finding out he had a kid is a bombshell (for both of them) but I just couldn t handle the way it was handled. Side story was cute though. I wish there was a book featuring Fox and Angie.
I nearly DNF’d Anxious People around 20%, but persevered after reading some blogging friends’ reviews. In the end, I’m glad I did. October wasn’t a great reading month for me… we’ll see what November brings.
I found I enjoyed Backman’s books less and less, with each new book. Not sure if I got used to him or something else. That said, I will strongly recommend A Man Called Ove – that one is so good! So much to love and hate about November! I hope the love trumps.
October flew by for me as well. I am glad you had a good reading month. I am looking forward to reading Anxious People and am sorry you found it underwhelming. I’ve read two of Backman’s other books, both of which I enjoyed. Although A Man Called Ove is still my favorite of the two. How was the Texas Book Festival? I hope you have a great November!
I’ve only read one book by Fredrik Backman and remember liking it. I haven’t check out his other books yet though I’ve heard many good things about this author’s books. Glad to hear you enjoyed your other reads and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on them.
