Hope everyone had a great weekend. Ours was good as it was filled with bookstore trips, a movie, laughter and sunny days. I had a Border’s coupon and treated myself to The Selected Works of T.S. Spivet by Reif Larsen. It looks like such a fun book. Have you read it?
Aside from reading my current books which I blogged about recently, I am looking forward to adding a couple of more books to the mix. First, there’s Persephone Reading week. I’ll do a proper post for that but I’ve decided to read Mariana by Monica Dickens. I’m being a bit sly as that’s also a book for my 30’s Mini-Challenge but I figure that’s ok.
Also, May is Short Story Month and as I’ve been falling a bit behind on my Short Story reading challenge I thought this would be the perfect time to get in another story or two. Actually, for my challenge I had said I would read 10 short stories but I’m going to mix it up and say it can be short stories and/or collections. So to my reading mix I’m going to add Alone With You by Marisa Silver.
I also need to fit in The Wings of the Sphinx by Andrea Camilleri for my next mystery book club read. Of course there are many other books I want to fit in this month so we’ll see. I’m looking forward to some good reads and probably some book buying splurges as I have a birthday at the end of the month.
So those are some of my plans for the month, what about you?
What a great weekend! I wanted to go to a bookstore too but became distracted. Maybe I’ll go sometime this week. I have a ton of books I hope to read this month. Keeping my fingers crossed. . .
Nothing wrong with killing two birds with one stone! Looking forward to your thoughts on Mariana.
Oooh, short story month! I have a Roald Dahl book that Bookfool sent a few months ago. I need to read from that one! I also have Blackbird House by Alice Hoffman. It’s been on my shelf for AGES!
May is generally a crazy busy (and stressful) month for me. I’ll be happy if I finish my book club selection. We’re reading Mary Karr’s memoir, The Liars’ Club. Hope it pulls me in quickly!
It’s so fun to plan, isn’t it? I’ll be reading the Slaves book and The Ampersand Papers for the Classic Circuit. I also hope to finally finish Carlyle. Only about 70 pages to go. I can do it!
Vasilly – Oh you have to go this week then 🙂 I saw your goal for the month – you can do it!
Nymeth – Hee,hee.. I knew you guys would understand.
Les in NE – Let’s not even talk about all the books on the bookshelf that have there for AGES. I think some of mine may become antiques soon! haha… Hang in there and hope you like the Karr memoir. I read that a long time ago. It was good but depressing.
Stefanie – It is! You can finish the Carlyle – yes you can! 🙂
I so want to read a Persephone one of these days. It is hard to imagine that I had never heard of these until I started blogging. I think the covers are so wonderful that I would love to just frame them even if I didn’t have time to read any of the books! I hope you have a great reading week.
I’m working away on Anna Karenina, but I still have a stack of other books I want to read. I decided to read Someone at a Distance for Persephone week, and I’m reading a mystery by Mignon Eberhart for the classics circuit. I loved Mariana by the way and hope you enjoy it too!
That books sounds wonderful! I added it to my library queue. Unfortunately I can’t run right out and pick it up because the library is closed for a week while they re-carpet.
Didn’t know May was short story month. I have been so surprised with my short story reading this year. I’ve read 11 collections thus far, more than I’ve read in any given year before, perhaps in any combination of several years! And there are tons more I plan on getting to. I’ve always loved short stories, but this year I’ve been craving them more than ever.
I’ve been waiting for someone reliable to read Reif Larsen’s book……alas….someone reliable. Let us know.
p.s. I read far more than I ever comment….and I trust your word.
I didn’t realize May was short story month! I need to get back into my short story reading, so I guess now is as good a time as any. I have a couple of books I am planning to get to this month and if I manage that I’ll be happy.
I meant to read the TS Spivek book but never did. I guess we all know how that goes.
Kathleen – Wouldn’t it be great to have the whole collection? It’d just be so pretty 🙂 I hope you get to discover one soon!
Danielle – So many books! I can’t wait to hear what you think of the Eberhart book. I’ll be looking forward to your post on that one!
Carl V. – Oh isn’t it awful when the library is closed? That’s when you especially want to go! 🙂 You’ve read a lot of short stories – that’s wonderful. I’ve been lagging lately but am hoping to catch up!
Kristy – I promise to keep you posted although it may take me a while. I’m very good about reading but get so behind on reviewing! And, thank you for the vote of confidence! 🙂
Literary Feline – Isn’t it great? I am starting to enjoy short stories more but I do need a bit of a push to pick them up so I’m happy for the reminder. Hope you get to your books 🙂
diane – I remember totally wanting that book when it came out but you are right, other books come out and so it goes. I’ll keep you guys posted!
