Connections

lovepoemsfromgod.jpgJust yesterday I mentioned how I was watching a program on the Shroud of Turin and what synchronicity that was as my book club read also deals with the mystery of the Shroud. Well, you won’t believe this but later in the day when I was doing a bit of organizing I picked up Love Poems from God by Daniel Ladinsky and another connection was made.

This book I picked up from the library last week or so because I had seen it at my yoga studio and was skimming through it while waiting for a yoga class. Anyway, so last night I’m again dipping into it and I find that it has a whole section devoted to the poetry of Meister Eckhart, a great mystic and Catholic monk and scholar who almost had to appear before a kind of inquisition when he died.

Guess who makes an appearance in my book club book? Meister Eckhart, of course. All of a sudden my book club read is definitely much more interesting.

So I need to get back to my book club read because I’ve still got a ways to go but don’t you love it when this sort of thing happens? When one book connection leads to another and so on? For now, I’ll leave you with a bit of poetry from Meister Eckhart.

The Hope of Loving

What keeps us alive, what allows us to endure?
I think it is the hope of loving.
or being loved.

I heard a fable once about the sun going on a journey
to find its source, and how the moon wept
without her lover’s
warm gaze.

We weep when light does not reach our hearts. We wither
like fields if someone close
does not rain their
kindness
upon
us.
