I had a wonderful day out with one of my girlfriends on Saturday. We shared lots of laughter, ate yummy food, did a bit of shopping and even got to see Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day.
I loved the book and the movie didn’t disappoint. It was so cute, and sure there were some notable differences between book and movie, but I think the film captured the spirit of the book. I highly recommend both book and film.
On the bookish front, I was gifted with a signed copy of Clare Dunkle’s latest book, The Sky Inside. Here’s a blurb on the book: Every year a new generation of genetically-engineered children is shipped out to meet their parents. Every spring the residents of his town take down the snow they’ve stuck to their windows and put up flowers. Every morning his family gathers around their television and votes, like everyone else, for whatever matter of national importance the president has on the table. Today, it is the color of his drapes. It’s business as usual under the protective dome of suburb HM1. And it’s all about to come crashing down.
That sounds good doesn’t it? I may have to include this one for my Once Upon a Time Challenge reads.
If that wasn’t enough, I also won a book from Joy! Thank you Joy.
So a lot of fun but now it’s back to work on my beaded journals. I spent quite a bit of time sewing today so now I think I’m going to go curl up with one of my books. I’m in the middle of a couple of great books but I’ll tell you more about those tomorrow.
I loved the book but I was worried about the movie being too different when I saw the trailer. I’m glad you liked it though. I’m looking forward to seeing it now!
I’ve been wanting to see Miss Pettigrew (the movie!) and didn’t even know it was a book. Thanks – now I have to read it first!
Glad to hear you had a wonderful weekend, Iliana.
The Sky Inside does sounds interesting, and I can’t wait to read what you’ll think of this book.
Finally, congrats on winning the book!! 🙂
Wow, sounds like you had a great time and great bookish times, too.
I have Miss Pettigrew on my shelves and keep meaning to get around to it -sigh! If the movie is good then maybe just for once I could go to that first. The Claire Dunkle book sounds very intriguing too.
Glad to hear Miss Pettigrew is good — both book and movie. I’d like to see the movie one of these days.
Tricia – There are definitely some changes that I don’t think were necessary but I still thought they worked for the film version. I figure it was to add more “drama” 🙂
ravenous reader – I would say read the book first. It was such a delight!
Melody – The weekend was great… Although Sunday I was lazy! I guess I was recovering from too much fun! ha,ha…
aka Nik – We did! I love hanging out with girlfriends.
Litlove – If you ever need a comfort book, that is most definitely it! Doesn’t the Sky Inside sound great?
Dorothy W. – I thought for sure I’d already missed it on the big screen but we lucked out. I hope you can go out and see it!
Ili, I had a wonderful time on our day out with you! I’m looking forward to our next outing already! I think I will send Clare an email to share your blog comments on her book, I know she will be excited. Thanks again for all your hard work on the journals you’ve done so far for my Mother’s Day gift sets, they look wonderful. I’m more than half way through What Angels Fear and I think this a big improvement over the books we have been reading for our mystery book group.
Glad you enjoyed the Miss P film! The Sky Inside sounds interesting – will have to look into it.
Glad you had a good time! The Sky Inside sounds AMAZING. Thanks for the blurb.
I took my eldest daughter (she’s 20) to see “Miss ” over her spring break. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. Now, “The Sky Inside” sounds a little creepy! But I’ll have to give it a look. I’m going to assume I can find it at the library.
For some great legal thriller time, give The Osgoode Trilogy by Mary E. Martin a look. It’s three books, obviously, “Conduct in Question,” “Final Paradox” and “A Trial of One,” all starring Harry Jenkins, an attorney who finds himself surrounded by some really intereesting villains and adversaries. Martin has woven some highly original plots, with some psychological horror added for spice (and personally, I’ve always found the psychological suspense to be particularly horrifying and, in a strange way — and from the comfort of my armchair — highly satisfying). In all three novels, Martin goes farther than most authors to find out what makes her characters tick, which makes them more interesting to us.
I wasn’t familiar with this book or movie. I may check out the book and wait for the DVD! Thanks.
Shadan – It was great seeing you girl. Isn’t that book a huge improvement over our last few books? Thank goodness 🙂
Tara – I want to start it now too but have several other books going on that I think I need to get through those first!
Andi – I will keep you posted on that one!
Liz – You know what else I loved about Miss P? The music. That’s totally not the kind of music I like but I loved it. Thanks for the info on Osgoode trilogy – will check that out!
Nicole – I hope you do check both out. They were great!
I didn’t know they’d made a film of ‘Miss Pettigrew’, who’s in it? I must look out for the DVD because I love the book.
It does sound like you had a very nice time, Iliana! I thought the movie Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day was fun too. I hope to read the book one of these days. It’s such a great story. The Sky Inside does sound good! I’ll have to look that one up further. Congratulations too on your win!
