To Say Nothing of the Dog

It's the year 2057 and Ned Henry, a traveling historian of sorts, is on a mission to go back in time to London to retrieve the Bishop's Bird Stump, a particular Victorian item, so as to restore Coventry Cathedral to its former glory.

His first problem though is that he's going back to 1940 London just as Nazi forces are about to strike and he hasn't had enough time to search for the Bishop's Bird Stump so he is forced to make several trips which leave him with a sort of time (jet) lag. He is in badly need of a rest but when Verity Kindle, another time traveler inadvertently brings back something from the past, Ned must help her.

Once Ned drops in Victorian London he thinks he'll resolve Verity's problem quickly and then finally get some of that much needed rest but as you can expect there are only more problems that these two time travelers will need to resolve so that the time continuum isn't altered. And, don't forget he still needs to find the Bishop's Bird Stump.

Verity and Ned are truly what I'd call delightful characters as is the rest of the cast, of which there are spoiled society young ladies, scientists, butlers, a medium and yes, even a dog.

It took me a bit to get into the story but that's probably because I haven't read much in this genre, but it was well worth staying with it. There is a lot of humor, a dash of romance and reader be forewarned, this book will also make you want to reach out for the mysteries written by Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers.
