"From the top of the jetty to the rocks below was roughly twelve feet, give or take. Not enough to break much more than a few limbs, the man standing at the far edge throught wryly. Hardly worth the jump."

Successful businessman, Robert Magellan, has endured life without his wife and son after they went missing a year ago. Despite his wealth and connections nothing has come out of the investigations and so he just waits and wonders what happened to his family. He's become a bit of recluse but when he's asked to help a family friend find her missing grandson he can't refuse and puts up money for the investagtion and the reward.

On a Spring evening two teenagers were shot to death and two others are missing. Did they kill the other two or were they also victims of foul play? The family of the missing teens believe their kids are in peril. The police seem to be set on pinning the deaths of the other teens on them but they know their children are innocent.

Mallory Russo is hired by Robert Magellan to help investigate the crime. She was once a rising star in the police force but had to leave after she ruffled too many feathers. She now writes books but is very tempted by the offer to help find the missing teens. She has good instincts and with the help of the new police detective Charlie Wanamaker she knows they can figure out what happened to the teens.

I liked the full cast of characters the author introduces and she does a good job of building a solid background on most of them. For readers who enjoy romantic suspense novels, I think you'll enjoy the likable two main characters. However, I did find the suspense a bit wanting. From what I can gather there are more books to come in this series so hopefully the next books will have a bit more tension and nail biting moments.
