"Sometime during my fifteenth proofread it hits me that I'm acting ridiculous. I should know better than to waste precious time dissecting some guy's two-kilobyte e-mail for hidden romantic meaning, not to mention staying up until half past one to craft a response. At any rate, in the unlikely event he is interested in me, there's no point in starting anything now since we're probably heading to different colleges in different cities."
Seventeen-year-old Dominique has spent her teenage years mainly studying and dreaming about medical school. When it comes to boys, well she may think about them but doesn't have any real experience, but all of that will change after she falls in front of Wes, a track-star senior from across town.
Embarrassed to have met Wes after she falls in front of him, Dom wants to get in touch with him to thank him for helping her out after her fall. With her best friend's help, Dom gets a hold of his email and soon a the two will be exchanging emails, chatting and getting to know one another.
The beginning of the relationship is fun and flirty and it was fun to see how Dom overanalyzed every bit that happened to her with her best friend, Amy. But, the relationship grows and becomes more complex. This book doesn't just explore first love on an emotional level but also the physical experiences.
Capturing the intensity of first love, the author takes Dom through a rollercoaster of emotions detailing anything from jealousy, happiness, lust and uncertainty.
The book may be a bit graphic for some readers but I found the book honest. I think that for many young women this would be the type of book they could run to and feel like they weren't alone in their thoughts and know that someone understood them.
