"My parents are trying to ruin my life. Oh yeah, I know that every teenager says that, but I really mean it. They want me dead. Or, actually, undead."
Mina Hamilton's morning has been ruined. During breakfast, her parents have just told her that the Vampire Council is demanding that Mina decide what she wants to do with her life. Will she become a vampire or not?
Mina's always known that her parents were vampires but they lived a pretty regular life with regular jobs. She assumed she could put off this big decision at least until after she graduated but now on top of stressing out about whether or not she'll go to prom, she has to figure out if she wants to be a vampire.
Mina's parents and the Council send Mina to some vampire classes so she'll understand what becoming a vampire will be all about. Now, how will Mina be able to keep this big secret from her best friend, Serena? And, going to afternoon sessions isn't exactly something to look forward to but there is a cute guy there who wants to know more about Mina and her family. Maybe things won't be so bad after all.
One of the best parts of this book was Mina's friendship with Serena. The two girls share their ups and downs, and will remind anyone reading this of the importance of best friends.
The book is a lot more light-hearted than other vampire fiction but I think that's what sets this one apart. It's a fun book and I hope there will be further adventures from Mina, Serena and the rest of the teens.
