Annie Seymour works the crime beat for the New Haven Herald so when her phone rings at 3:42 in the morning it can only mean there’s a crime scene that needs to be written up. The body of beautiful Yale student, Melissa Peabody, is found outside a luxury condo in what appears to have been a suicide but upon closer examination all signs point to murder.
When Annie tries to get more information on the coed she finds that the leads take her to the seedy world of escort services. Annie’s publisher and editor put the kibosh on her investigation but Annie is not giving up her story so easily even when sidetracked by having to cover the story of the CowParade, a display of fiberglass cows throughout the city. If only Annie could give that story to the over-eager reporter, Dick Whitfield, who seems intent on stealing her byline. Like that’s going to happen.
As Annie continues her investigation she uncovers more shady characters and associations and when a second murder is committed Annie knows there must be more than just a heartbroken boyfriend behind the crimes and some real lowlifes are involved.
For example, just who is Mr. Hickey Watson, the owner of the escort service, trying to protect and what exactly is the owner of the newspaper hiding from his employees? On top of all of this there is a handsome Frank Sinatra look-alike who’s seems to be stalking Annie. Who is he and why is he always winking at her?
Annie might be too irritable and stubborn at times but I think it's those imperfections that only make her more realistic and likable. This is one series I’ll be interested in following because I want to know what happens with her nemesis at the Newspaper and with the handsome P.I.
