"For a dead guy, Warren Black had a lot to say. I held the phone away from my ear a little bit; he was shouting about how we got it wrong. No shit."

Lately, it seems like there's a lot going wrong for Annie Seymour. Aside from being on a break from her boyfriend, P.I. Vinny DeLucia, her current assignment for the New Haven Hearld is proving to be a tough one. She has to write up a profile piece on the city's new police chief and she can't pull it together. So, when a body turns up at Long Wharf she quickly heads over there to scoop up that story first.

The "floater", a Hispanic man, was found without any I.D. The only odd bit were the bee stings on his stomach. Annie keeps that to herself until she hears more from the coroner and heads back to her apartment. When her phone rings she thinks it's Marty, her editor, reminding her about the profile but Marty is calling to tell Annie to head to the Yale Repertory Theater - someone has gunned down the police chief.

As Annie begins to look into both cases she sees that there are links between high ranking officials and the city's immigrant population. As she gets deeper into the investigation Annie is pulled off the case but although she may not have all the pieces of the puzzle she'll still use her sources to find the connections.

In this engaging third novel, Rocco, Vinny's brother makes quite an appearance. He's a famous writer and asks Annie if he can tag along on her case to get some background for one of his characters. Annie's former boyfriend, also plays a large part in this novel and it seems that maybe he and Annie still have some unfinished personal business.

Annie hasn't lost any of her tenaciousness and brashness which are what make her such an appealing character. A great, fast-paced mystery with some complex plot twists that will have you guessing whodunit and how it all fits together.
