Paul Levine

Deep Blue Alibi

Steve Solomon and Victoria Lord are back fighting, falling in love and practicing law in the Florida Keys in this sequel to Paul Levine’s, Solomon vs. Lord. I wasn’t sure if the quirky characters or the repartee would get old in the second novel but I’m happy to report it’s all back.

While at first I did think the author was trying too hard to make us see just how different Steve and Victoria are I think the narrative quickly falls into place. This time Victoria is having serious doubts about whether she should stay with Steve and not just on a personal level but on a professional one as well.

Her own mettle as an attorney is put to the test when she handles her own client and one time business partner of her father, Uncle Grif. He had invited Victoria to the Keys to talk about his multi-million dollar project, The Oceania, but before he can even meet with her he is accused of murdering an EPA official.

As Victoria searches for the truth she is also uncovering family secrets and dealing with her feelings for Junior, Uncle Grif’s handsome son whom she once thought she’d end up marrying.

Meanwhile, Steve isn’t sitting idle on the sidelines. He’s busy trying to clear his dad’s name, a one-time powerful judge, and trying to figure out just what he needs to do to hang on to Victoria.

How all of their problems are worked out is a great diversion for the reader. Yes, the humor is quite raunchy and there’s a lot of suspension of disbelief but there are some scenes that will no doubt have you laughing out loud. More of the same characters from the first book are back and this time they are more fleshed out so it’s nice to see that this series is going in the right direction.
