Fifteen-year-old Christopher John Francis Boone is a mathematical whiz, he relates well to animals, humans not so much, and hates the color yellow. For many, this boy is simply odd and problematic but Christopher just happens to deal with life a bit differently than most.
Late one night he discovers his neighbor’s dog, Wellington, murdered with a pitchfork. After being falsely accused he decides to take matters into his own hands and with knowledge gleaned from reading about Sherlock Holmes adventures he begins to look into the death of Wellington.
The investigation will take Christopher to make discoveries about his parent’s marriage and it is heart-wrenching to see how Christopher will deal with the complexities of life.
The book has quirky illustrations throughout the pages as Christopher explains what he encounters in his sleuthing. There are also many passages dealing with mathematical problems and I admit those I quickly skimmed over but nevertheless this is an engaging book.
