Aurora (Roe) Teagarden is a librarian in Lawrenceton, Georgia. Aside from spending time with books on a professional level, she is also a true crime buff and her and a few members of the small community formed a club, Real Murders, to study famous crimes. What they never expected was to be wrapped up in an investigation involving one of their own.
While the members gather for their monthly meeting, Roe feels like something is amiss. Where's Mamie? Roe begins looking for her and makes a gruesome discovery. Mamie has been killed and her body staged to look like the crime the club members were just about to discuss.
As the story progresses, the murder count goes up and again the killer seems to be playing a game with the members. All murders are copies of famous crimes. The police and Roe have a suspect list and unfortunately most of the suspects are the members of Real Murders.
The twenty-something amateur sleuth definitely has her hands full. Roe's juggling two admirers and watching for her personal safety. After her family is put in danger she is determined to help the police.
I found the premise clever and Roe to be a likeable character. Author Harris does a good job of keeping the reader guessing about the identity of the killer but what I never figured out was the why? This could have been a better mystery if the motivation driving the crimes had been explored.
