Find a comfy spot and be ready to be regaled with the story of small town told through the eyes of quirky 12-year-old Emma.
In the Hotel Paradise life is pretty much routine for Emma. Diners have to be endured, tables need to be set and for a girl who is left to her own devices most of the time, the knowledge of a 40 year old unsolved crime of another 12 year old begs to be investigated.
What really happened to Mary Evelyn Devereau who drowned in Spirit Lake? And, who is the girl that keeps appearing and disappearing? Emma wants to know and she will find out one way or another.
I couldn't help but love Emma, after all she is a bookish girl. There were times that I was angry at her mom, I know she had to work hard to keep the hotel afloat but didn't she think Emma needed her?
A very satisfying read even if the mystery was not all nice and neatly tied up in the end.
