"Until she left the farm for good, I never thought much about what made me different from my sister, what set me apart from her beyond our looks, beyond her hair color (unnatural blond) and mine (unremarkable brown), as her body type (tall, thin) and mine (neither). She had always been fickle where I had been firm - mean to my kind. She shone brighter than me, for sure, but sometimes painfully so, like the way the sun hurts to look at when you have a head cold."
Georgia "Peachy" Archer grew up on a Canadian farm with her sister, Beth, and their dad. The three created a good life after the girls' mother suicide but for Beth life on the farm wasn't enough. She had her sights on the big city and big dreams. The two sisters are complete opposites but they are sisters and will stick by one another during the difficult times.
However, during Beth's most recent visit to the farm their relationship will be tested like never before. Peachy will find her husband and Beth in flagrante delicto in the kitchen pantry.
Peachy runs off to Beth's apartment in New York. She tells Beth that she doesn't want to listen to her, doesn't want to talk about anything and all Beth needs to do is take care of the house, her two children and give her some space to think.
Peachy will only be in New York for a weekend but she hopes that in New York she'll be able to exact her own revenge on Beth, after all Peachy knows all about Beth's ex-boyfriend and has a scheme in in mind.
Revenge is not a simple thing though when you love a person and when you begin to question the past and how it's shaped those you love.
While I couldn't like some of the characters in this book very much, especially Beth, I thought the author did a great job of showing just how complicated and messy family relationships can be.
