Angel at Trouoblesome Creek

How much more of a cozy can this novel be when a guardian angel, Augusta Goodnight, comes down to help Mary George Murphy solve her problems? I enjoy cozies but typically shy away from anything that seems like it might be too cute. Surprisingly this first in the Troublesome Creek series is a real gem.

Mary George is desperately in need of some intervention. She’s lost her beloved Aunt Caroline, she’s been fired from her job and she's been dumped by her fiancé. Thankfully Augusta Goodnight steps in to help Mary George face her new situation.

Augusta Goodnight is a guardian angel who drew her last mortal breath during WWII. She is fond of music, baked goods and fancy hats but most of all she is ready to help Mary George.

Mary George sets out to sell her aunt’s house and belongings to pay off looming debts and decides to make a new start in the town of Troublesome Creek by renting her own place. All would be well except that she still has nagging thoughts about her aunt’s suspicious death.

As Mary George starts investigating she uncovers some truths about her aunt’s past, her own years at an orphanage and along the way she is reunited with a childhood friend. Mary George learns to rely on Augusta’s help and herself to make the most of her situation.

There is a bit of romance and some good chuckles in this book.
