A to Z

I stole this meme from Danielle who got it from Simon. Make an alphabetical list of some favorite books and authors. For some letters, I had a lot of authors to choose from and for others I had to really think about it. Anyway, this was fun.

  • Atwood, Margaret – The Handmaid’s Tale
  • Booth, Martin – Islands of Silence
  • Cisneros, Sandra – Caramelo
  • Donoghue, Emma – Slammerkin
  • Esquivel, Laura – Like Water for Chocolate
  • Fitzgerald, Penelope – The Bookshop
  • Gaarder, Jostein – Sophie’s World
  • Hill, Susan – The Woman in Black
  • Irving, John – A Prayer for Owen Meany
  • Japrisot, Sebastien – A Very long Engagement
  • Kingsolver, Barbara – The Bean Trees
  • Lansens, Lori – The Girls
  • Mistry, Rohinton – Family Matters
  • Niffenegger, Audrey – The Time Traveler’s Wife
  • Olsson, Linda – Astrid & Veronika
  • Pym, Barbara – Jane and Prudence
  • Q – Nothing…
  • Rice, Anne – Interview with the Vampire
  • Shapiro, Jeff – Renato’s Luck
  • Toole, John Kennedy – A Confederacy of Dunces
  • Urrea, Luis Alberto – The Hummingbird’s Daughter
  • Vreeland, Susan – Artemisia
  • Waters, Sarah – Affinity
  • X – Nothing…
  • Yoshimura, Akira – Shipwrecks
  • Zusak, Markus – The Book Thief

It was fun to come up with this list because I got to think back on the books I’ve read. Some of these favorites I read ages ago (I wonder if I’d still like them the second time around and so many years later) and some are a lot more recent.
Who else has done this or wants to play?

Great list and what fun! I hope to do this meme when the mood strikes. ;)

I love your list. I saw that litlove at Tales from the Reading Room did this one, too. I’m going to have to see if I can make enough of a list to make it worthwhile! A nice challenge–thanks!

I’m so enjoying everyone’s lists! I love yours iliana – it’s a wonderful mix of books I’ve loved and books I’ve never heard of. Oh dear – this is only adding to the tbr mountain, isn’t it?

The best thing about this meme is going around and collecting new ideas to ensure that the TBR pile never diminishes – some hope!

Great list – so many that I’ve never read though! Maybe a list like this is a nice project for this Friday afternoon… :-)

Great list! It’s fun reading everyone’s versions. I’ve got to think about how I might possibly answer “X” and “Q”!

  7. Tiffany http://tiffanynorris.blogspot.com

Ooh, I might have to do this one, too. Good answers!

  8. Isabel http://booksandotherstuff.blogspot.com

    Great list.

I won’t do it coz I hate lists.

    Have fun this weekend.

What a cool meme! I think I’ll give it a go later.

I like A Confederacy of Dunces too. There are many on your list that I haven’t read but have been meaning to for ages.

Interesting meme–I may have to do this myself!

  11. Stefanie http://somanybooksblog.com

Nice list. I’m going to have to check out some of those books. I’m not sure I could come up with an author for Q or X either.

I’ve been playing around with making a list, but I have several for quite a few letters that I can’t choose between and then several other letters for which I have nothing. I know it’s not a test, and I could just put up what I have, but I’m such a perfectionist about things. I enjoyed reading your list, as well as the others I’ve seen. Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend!

Great list! This is a fun one. I think I’ll have to do it.

  14. Melissa http://melissasbookreviews.blogspot.com

I agree, I need to have a go with this one. :)

I’m impressed that you only had two letters missing! I had four gaps…
What a lot of different authors people are picking – I’ve only read three of your choices (the Kingsolver, Atwood and Waters) but have The Bookshop by Penelope Fitzgerald waiting to be read soon…

I’ll be doing this on my blog at a later time. Wonderful list! Found you on Weekly Geeks

  17. Marie http://www.bostonbibliophile.com

Great list! I have a bunch of those in my library as well. I think I’m going to do the meme sometime this week. :-)

  18. Bookgirl http://www.bookgirl.net

Hope everyone’s been doing great! I can’t wait to read some of your lists for those of you who just participated or are still thinking of putting a list together :)

  19. Nicole http://www.nbbaker1102.wordpress.com

I’m impressed with your list. I don’t think I could do this. I rarely remember the author’s or the titles. Isn’t that ridiculous??

  20. Danielle http://www.danitorres.typepad.com

I’ve read several of the same authors and have several more on my TBR pile! I especially want to read the Pym book and Sarah Waters’ Affinity!

  21. Bookgirl http://www.bookgirl.net

Nicole – Well, I did have to glance at my bookshelves often to remember some of those titles! :)
Danielle – I need to read more by Pym! I loved that book. I think you’ll enjoy it. And, Affinity is all sorts of wonderful.

  22. Matt http://mattviews.wordpress.com

A most interesting way to keep inventory of your favorite reads. Slammerkin is at the top of my list now. I’ll have to snag this meme too. :)

  23. Melanie http://www.indextrious.blogspot.com

I also drew a blank for Q and X. I also loved the Japrisot; it was hard to keep it to one author per letter for some of them. I have the Olsson and Niffenegger on my TBR, now you’ve added a few more.
