What’s In a Name
As the year is winding down I am starting to finalize my choices on the reading challenges I’m going to join next year. I didn’t want to go overboard but I think at this point it’s inevitable. I just have too much fun. Plus, there are just so many good ones out there, and I’m even getting over my aversion to the year long challenges.
The latest challenge I’m joining is one hosted by Annie at Words by Annie and starts January 1, 2008 and lasts all year. For this one you have to choose a book in each of the categories. Here are my choices:
1. A book with a color in its title: Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
2. A book with an animal in its title: Crow Lake by Mary Lawson
3. A book with a first name in its title: Ines of My Soul by Isabel Allende
4. A book with a place in its title: The Seville Communion by Arturo Pérez-Reverte
5. A book with a weather event in its title: The Rising Tide by Molly Keane
6. A book with a plant in its title: Eucalyptus by Murray Bail
I’m going to try and stick with my choices but I may switch some out, and I do plan to overlap a bit with some of my challenges and my book groups. Maybe then I can finish some of these challenges. Heh. Anyway, stay tuned for more reading challenge updates!

December 12th, 2007 at 12:59 pmInteresting challenge this. Kind of reminds me of ‘Animal, Vegetable, Mineral’, only in books.

And if you don’t mind, I’m going to swipe your Virginia Woolf quote. I love that!

December 12th, 2007 at 8:23 pmLove your list. I read Eucalyptus a few years ago. I found it difficult at times but overall a very good read.

December 12th, 2007 at 10:20 pmI sort of like year long challenges as I have a better chance of completing them! All your choices sound good (wasn’t it fun choosing?), but the Molly Keane book sounds great!

December 13th, 2007 at 4:11 amaka Nik – C’mon join in!

Nymeth – I know, it’s hard to say no isn’t it? I figure it’s a good way to read new genres maybe and of course make some new bookish friends
Kisane – Oh that’s true! How cute.
Stephanie – I’m so impressed – she’s only 10 or 11 right? Love it.
Melissa – Go right ahead – it’s a good one isn’t it. I “steal” quotes from wherever I can too
Stefanie – Thanks for the heads up on the booK! It sounds pretty different so I am looking forward to it plus it’s been a shelf-sitter for a long time.
Danielle – That’s a great way of looking at it! And, you are right, the choosing part is so much fun!
Anon – Will do

December 13th, 2007 at 7:36 pmI keep eyeing this challenge even though I’m trying to cut down next year. Sigh. I still need to post my list for the Year of Reading Dangerously. Why are these challenges all so tempting?

December 14th, 2007 at 3:43 pmI know what you mean, about challenge overboard. I just added up my challenges for next year so far, and I’m already at 7! I joined this one as well, but it is probably the one I am least likely to finish.

December 14th, 2007 at 5:24 pmCarl V. – It’s a great idea she came up with isn’t it? I am excited about it too!
Alisia – I’m going to be doing about 7 as well… And, that’s not even counting the R.I.P. and fantasy challenge which I just KNOW Carl V. is going to host
