Boo!
“O let us cast dull care away
Again be children for a day
Witches goblins have their sway
‘Tis Halloween, let’s joke and play.”
~ Vintage postcard greeting
I’m ready for Halloween. I’ve stocked up on candy, probably more than we’ll actually need for the trick or treaters, but I don’t mind having leftovers you know.
So while I was doing some blog hopping today I saw over at Texas Pages that they listed the 10 scariest characters in literature. There are some good choices on there and if I had to add one I’d say La Llorona. Who would you add?
Anyway, if you are still looking for some scary stories to read, I recommend The Woman in Black by Susan Hill, Sleep, Pale Sister by Joanne Harris, and Come Closer by Sara Gran. Just don’t forget to leave the lights on.
Hope everyone has a very happy Halloween!

October 31st, 2007 at 4:05 pmI would add Uriah Heep from David Copperfield! I know he’s not traditionally scary, but he gave me the creeps!
Hope you have a Happy Halloween as well!

October 31st, 2007 at 4:50 pmThe link to the scariest characters isn’t working for me right now (“can’t find server”), but I’ll be back to check on this later!

October 31st, 2007 at 7:02 pmTiffany – Ooh, I’ve never read it and must add it to the list. Another character I thought about was Grenouille from Perfume by Patrick Suskind. Not the regular type monster but very evil too.
jenclair – I just clicked on it and it worked so hope you can give it a try later. Some of the characters mentioned were Hanibal Lecter, Dracula, and Voldemort.

October 31st, 2007 at 7:41 pmHappy Halloween to you.
Living in a city apartment means I am spared of trick or treaters. Sometimes a whole entourage might show up so I’m stocked up on candies as well, but I have to keep my hands off those Reese peanut butter cup and the Kisses.

October 31st, 2007 at 10:01 pmI agree–Uriah gives me the creeps, too. I can’t think of any particularly scary characters to add to the list, I guess I don’t read enough scary books. I do need to read that Harris book, though. Have a Happy Halloween, too.

October 31st, 2007 at 11:05 pmHappy Halloween!!! I’m definitely going to check out those characters. I finished Frankenstein today so I would add the good Doctor to that list if he isn’t already there.

November 1st, 2007 at 6:13 amMatt – Hee,hee… yes, you have to make sure to keep some goodies for you. I love Reese’s peanut butter cups but my husband hates them so I didn’t get any this year. I should have and just kept all the extras for me! I was nice though and got Snickers and Twix.
LK – It was quite spooktacular – I love that. Hope yours was too!
Danielle – Hmm, now I feel like I most definitely am missing out on a great character!
Andi – Yay you for finishing Frankenstein. One of these days that’s another classic I want to get to.
