Ready.Set.Go!

Good morning everyone. Just wanted to pop in and let you know that I’m ready to start the 24 Hour Readathon!

readathon2

I’ll update this post throughout the day to let you know how it’s going. To all of you who are participating – have tons of fun!

10:00 a.m. CST – Do some quick blog visits and then start reading An Infamous Army by Georgette Heyer.

12:00 p.m. CST – The reading is going great but I did get interrupted for a bit when the mail arrived. I got a box from Barnes & Noble. Yay. I’ll tell you about those books later though. Now, I’m going to take a break for lunch.

12:20 p.m CST – Still haven’t gone to lunch. Instead I did some blog visiting and checked in on one of challenges set up during the 24 hr read-a-thon. Found Sarah’s challenge and couldn’t pass it up. So An Infamous Army is on hold while I read a short story from Leyendas Mexicanas. A book of creepy little tales in Spanish.

2:00 p.m. CST – In case you were wondering which short story I read, it was La Llorona. Love that story. There are a lot of versions of it but the one I prefer is set in Mexico City in colonial times. Now I’m off to Half Price books for some reading and browsing. I’ll update after I’m back around 6:00.

5:40 p.m. CST – I had a good time at Half Price Books even though I didn’t buy any books. Shocking isn’t it? But I did meet up with Christine and her husband for a bit so that was nice. I also read another short story, The Romance of Certain Old Clothes by Henry James. This is my first intro to Henry James and now I’d love to read more of by him. Great little story. I’m counting this and La Llorona as my reads for The Literate Kitten’s Horror Short Story Short Challenge. Back to reading… I’ll post later in the evening and let you know how it’s going.

10:00 p.m. CST – I’ve started two books since I last checked in. An Infamous Army is quite good but I thought if I added a couple of other books it’d help to keep things a bit more exciting during the read-a-thon. One book is Season of the Witch by Natasha Mostert, which is my fourth R.I.P. II Challenge book, and the other is The Sewing Circles of Herat by Christina Lamb which I’m reading for a book group. This non-fiction book is set in Afghanistan and I am actually going to replace one of my Armchair Travel Challenge reads with this one. Now it’s time for a little break. I’m trying to decide if I should make some coffee – hee, hee.

12:25 a.m. CST – This will be my last update of the evening. I slacked off a bit between 10 and 12 but have started reading again. I think I can still stay up for another hour or so but am not making any promises. I’ll be back in the morning with a new post on hours read and all that good stuff.
