Weekend at Borders

Well, guys, no German bread. We didn’t have one ingredient and so the baking had to be put off. It was a bit of a bummer but other than that our weekend was quite nice and get this, I was at the bookstore every day. We went Friday night, Saturday after yoga class, and Sunday after lunch. Now, that’s my kind of weekend.

I caught up on a lot of reading and I treated myself to Don’t Look Now by Daphne Du Maurier. I think the only bad thing about spending a lot of time at the bookstore this weekend is that I added a lot of books to my wish list. I left my notebook in the car though and I’m being lazy right now so you’ll have to wait for that report until tomorrow.

But, I did want to tell you about the books I checked out from the library. Here’s what I got:

  • Murder on Lexington Avenue by Victoria Thompson. This series has been one I’ve liked for the setting and the characters although with the past few books I’ve become a bit annoyed with the fact that the main characters’ relationship (there’s a bit of a romance) seems to have stalled. It’s not that I want my mysteries to have a romance element to them but if you’ve already set that up then you have to follow through don’t you think? Anyway, I started and finished the book this weekend hoping to see some progress made and while I liked it better than the previous book I was still a bit disappointed.
  • The Last Child by John Hart. This one I’ll wait to read in a couple of weeks as it’s for book group and I don’t want to get too ahead.
  • A Thousand Sisters: My Journey Into the Worst Place to be a Woman by Lisa Shannon. I saw this book reviewed in Bitch Magazine and it sounds like it will be a difficult read but I think an important read.

I need to catch up with my blog reading this week and see what you guys have been up to. Now, I’m off to bed with a new book. Not sure which one though so I need to go stand in front of the bookshelves for a while.
