New Stuff

I had a great time at the Austin Flea last weekend and I’m thinking of participating again in December. I do want to but it’s just that come end of the year there is always so much going on.

Don’t you wish sometimes you could just hit “pause” or “slow down” and have time to catch up on things? I shouldn’t complain really as I’ve been taking it easy the last few days as I get ready to start a new job later this week. I’m excited, anxious, you know the whole bit, but I’m just grateful for the opportunity to continue in my career path and hopefully learn new things.

In bookbinding news I’m filling up my shop with lots of new journals. My postcard journals are back, some new fun recycled journals, lots of beaded books with some favorite designs like birds, hearts and Paris. And, this one which was special for me to make because I used paper I bought in Italy this summer. Anyway, more journals to come in the next few days.

In reading news I finished Finding Nouf which was wonderful. This is the type of mystery that I like to read because of the setting and it fills my need for some travel even if it is the armchair kind. Currently I’m reading The Case of the Man Who Died Laughing by Tarquin Hall. This is the second installment in the Vish Puri series and I’m not sure that it’s capturing my attention as much as the first one did but I’ll keep on reading.

So that’s a bit of what’s going on around here. I did go to the bookstore twice this weekend so I’ll try to update you next on some of the books I found. Hope you are all reading wonderful stuff.

Busy Bookbinding

Well, hello October… Here were are mid month and I’m just now updating. Hope everyone is busy reading wonderful Fall books. Spooky reads? I know a lot of you are participating in RIP VII. I can’t believe I’m missing this wonderful challenge which I’ve participated in every year.  Perhaps I’ll get a chance to read some spooky stuff before the month is out.

What’s been keeping me busy lately is work of course, and a lot of bookbinding on the side. I had a great time at the Austin Flea last month and I’m doing it again at the end of this week. There are a lot of craft shows coming up now as the holiday season is upon us so I’m thinking of doing a few other shows.

Craft shows can be exhausting but so much fun too. I love being able to tell people how I got into bookbinding and a bit of what the process is like and Austin is a great place to meet fellow crafters. I belong to a group of very talented crafters and artists and they are all so willing to share experiences and knowledge.

Of course book reading is going on at Casa Bookgirl. I think the whole year has been a mystery kick as I continue to focus on mystery reads by Peter Robinson, Elly Griffiths and a few others. Currently I’m reading Finding Nouf by Zoe Ferraris which I know some of you highly recommended. So far I like! Anyway, that’s the scoop from here. Tell me what you’ve been reading and if there’s a book I must get now.
