Happy Halloween

Got the candy ready? I’m ready to welcome trick-or-treaters and then afterwards watch a scary film. We still haven’t decided which one we’ll watch tonight but I can’t wait.

Vintage Halloween Postcard

What else is going on? Well this weekend I finally dusted off my bike now that temperatures in Austin aren’t in the 90s & up. We went for a 9 mile ride at the Veloway. That was fun. I read more of The Small Room by May Sarton but I’m only about half way through it. I am looking forward to joining the Slaves for the discussion. And, yes, I’ve been bookbinding a lot.

I only read two books this month. Two. On the one hand, I’m bummed out I only read two books but then I think about all the other projects I’m doing and it’s ok. Right now my energies are a bit more focused on my bookbinding because of the studio tour and perhaps some other craft shows but eventually things will go back to more time for reading. To echo my previous post, it’s all about finding a happy balance.

Oh, I think I heard the doorbell, off to hand out candy. Happy Halloween and more book talk tomorrow.

Finding Balance

Today in yoga class we did a lot of balancing poses, which are typically my favorites I must add. I love doing tree, eagle, and warrior. I haven’t updated you on how my 40-day challenge is going but basically I didn’t make it. I have been going 5-6 days a week this month but I couldn’t complete a 40 day cycle. It’s ok, I know I can try again at any other time. Life gets hectic and sometimes it’s just hard to find the time to do everything we need/want.

So with today’s practice in mind I know there are so many things I need to accomplish to get ready for the studio tour in November and other things, but I need to find some balance and simplicity. How? Well, for one there will be no more library books for the rest of the year (save for the one I have right now for book group). I love the library but my stacks are out of control, I am behind on reviews, etc. Just having those books out, with due dates looming and books not being read, is not a good thing for me right now. I don’t need more deadlines.

Then come the reading challenges. You guys know I love to join in and have fun but I can’t even focus on those right now. My reading has taken quite a hit as I’m trying to accomplish other things so when I do have free reading time I want to be able to read more at whim. So, thank you to all the wonderful hosts for creating these but I’m going to have to back out of them for now. I look forward to the ones in the New Year. I feel like I want to start with a clean slate.

Anyway, that’s a what’s going on with me. Now I’m ready for Halloween and candy! I am going to buy a very big bag of goodies and maybe I’ll share with the kids that come trick-or-treating. Hee,hee. I hope you all have a super weekend. I look forward to catching up on my blog reading this weekend.

A New Book

“Each day, and the living of it, has to be a conscious creation in which discipline and order are relieved with some play and pure foolishness.” ~ May Sarton

I seem to be very into quotes lately. What can I say but I’ve just found some that have been resonating with me a lot. The other reason I chose this quote is because I started reading The Small Room by May Sarton which The Slaves of Golconda are discussing this Sunday.

While I think I will like this book can I just tell you it is hard to read. No, nothing wrong with the story but the book itself! I borrowed a copy from the library and it looks like it has been around since 1961 when it was published. Lots of discoloration, the pages seem brittle and just not a very nice copy overall. I should have bought this one instead. Ah well, I’ll put some gloves on and read on. Ha.

Anyway, I wanted to talk about some other stuff but I need to get back to the book and try to finish in time for the discussion. I’ve read May Sarton’s Journal of a Solitude which I thought was wonderful so I do look forward to reading this. And, please feel free to join in on our discussion.
