We’re Off

flight.jpg

Germany here we come!

I’m posting this entry a bit early because we have to catch an early flight on Friday. I’m not a morning person so I’m not looking forward to that but I’m set. I’ve got my books, journal, movies on the iPod (even yoga podcasts!) and so now it’s on to our adventure.

We look forward to being with our family and friends. Of course we’ll be indulging in lots of yummy bread from the bakeries, lots of hikes, going back to favorite places, going to new places, relaxing with books and just enjoying life.

I’ll try to blog a bit (and blog hop of course) but my computer time will be limited so regular posting will resume when we return on August 24.

You guys read lots of good books and enjoy the rest of the summer. Oh yes, and I promise lots of pictures.

Which Books

I’ve been busy this week getting ready for our annual trip to Germany and it’s been a bit of a scramble as we have to plan for being out of the country for three weeks but I’m not complaining. I can’t wait to be in Germany again.

One of the most important parts of travel planning is which books to take right? In the suitcase and on the flight of course. I used to do quite a bit of book shopping overseas but won’t be able to indulge as much this year so I have to take quite a few books with me. That means, paperbacks only and if they are the mass market size even better.

I’ve got some classics in mind (think Persuasion and The Woman in White), some mysteries, some fiction and maybe I’ll even throw in an issue of Tin House or some other lit mag.

I’ll miss my bookshelves but I actually did do a bit of book shopping on Amazon.de and so I should have some books waiting for me over at my in-laws. I’ll tell you about those later.

For now, it’s back to packing and organizing.

New Books

I’ve gotten a couple of new ARCs recently and I think I really lucked out with these as they sound very interesting to me.

The first one is I’m Perfect, You’re Doomed by Kyria Abrahams. This is a coming-of-age memoir of a girl growing up as a Jehovah’s Witness. I’m not much of a memoir reader but this sounds like it could be interesting.

The other book is from the imprint Serpent’s Tail. I’ve read a couple of books from this publisher and have really enjoyed them so hopefully this is also a good book. The Good Plain Cook by Bethan Roberts is the story of a young woman who answers an advertisement for a good plain cook and ends up getting more than she bargained for.

My other book is The Romantics by Galt Niederhoffer. This book has such a lovely cover and promises to be a captivating story of two friends, one about to be married, and what happens on the days leading up to the wedding.

If this wasn’t enough, to tempt me further I’ve received the latest catalog from Hesperus Press. Unfortunately their web site is under construction so I couldn’t find more info but it looks like they’ve got a list of world literature that they are about to launch August 2009.

So much to look forward to. How about you? Got any new ARCs you are excited about?
