No Time to Blog

I really should be reading the 300 or so pages I have left of Birdsong but instead here I am. I hate it when I don’t finish a book on time for my book group discussion. I don’t expect people not to discuss the end but I really don’t want to hear about it because after that my reading experience is just not the same.

And, not only that but how can you contribute to the discussion if you are only half way through a book? So I’ll probably just sit there tomorrow, listen to what everyone has to say, interject a few inane remarks like, “I like the beginning” and after I come home I’ll probably just put the book away not too inspired to finish it.

Okay off I go to make one last attempt at getting further along in the book. I’m now at the part where bombs are going off and bodies are flying, making it even harder for me to embrace this book. Let’s hope there’s not much more of that.

2 x 2 x 2

Saturday night we got together with some friends to watch two German films. Good Bye, Lenin! and What To Do In Case of Fire, show the remarkable spirit of people who won’t compromise their ideals. I had seen these movies before and I loved them just as much the second time around. If you haven’t seen them yet put them on your DVD list of films to watch.

The other double feature I had was listening to Gold Medal by The Donnas and Borrowed Heaven by The Corrs. Both sound good but I think so far I’m preferring The Donnas more.

And, I had to go to the book sale again for another peek. There wasn’t much left over, at least not much that interested me, but I did find two Ruth Rendell books. I do love her dark tales.

What I didn’t get to do was my Artist Date so I’ll just have to do two dates in one week. Oh and don’t even ask my how far behind I am on my Morning Pages.

Bag of Books

Picture it – table after table stacked with books, books underneath the tables, books along the walls and I only had 30 minutes to check it out. The travesty.

There were lots of romance novels and mysteries, and I don’t think I’ve seen that many copies of The Bridges of Madison County ever. If you want one let me know. I can’t imagine that the stock will be depleted.

I had to glare at some people for being in the way. Don’t go to the sale, chat on your cell and stand in front of the stacks. No one stands between BookGirl and sale stacks. But even though I rushed through the sale I got some good finds.

The Last Known Residence of Mikey Acuña by Dagoberto Gilb
Trick of the Eye by Jane Stanton Hitchcock
How to Breathe Underwater by Julie Orringer
The Red Room by Nicci French
The Bone People by Keri Hulme
Talking to the Dead by Helen Dunmore

I hope everyone has a good weekend. I know I’ll be busy reading Birdsong (which I still haven’t started actually), doing another Artist Date as I work through The Artist’s Way book and Saturday night we have foreign film night with friends. Maybe I’ll even make it back to the book sale.
