Grab a margarita and your favorite Latin American novel to toast and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month tomorrow. Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua celebrate their independence on the 15th, Mexico celebrates on the 16th, and Chile on the 18th.
In case you need some suggestions, here are some of my favorite Mexican novels:
- The Years with Laura Díaz by Carlos Fuentes
- Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel
- Pedro Páramo by Juan Rulfo
- The Book of Lamentations by Rosario Castellanos
If you want to discuss or find out more about Spanish literature, movies and music I have found a great web site, ClubCultura. En Español.
I’ve got the camera, books and maps packed and I’m ready for Boston. I’ll be back on Monday. I hope everyone has a great weekend.
